The story of my story – A GAME OF TRUTHS
It’s incredible to me that people will be reading my story in only a few days (well, if anyone buys it that is. I guess I should work on some marketing, huh?)
Anyway, I thought I’d share the way in which A GAME OF TRUTHS came about.
It went from an idea that arrived out of nowhere while I was here (I should have pretended I have one of those huge, fancy showers)…
Okay, not really. The idea kinda came out of nowhere while I was in the shower. I’m convinced there’s magic in water! I don’t know how it happens, it’s just the way it works for me. I don’t brainstorm or anything. Some ideas I’ll get, and write down for later. Others won’t let me do that. I was working on a different book when this particular idea struck. The little bugger of a muse just would not get out of my head and insisted I listen to it first! Kind of like someone poking their finger into the back of your head until you do what they want. How rude!
I had to push that other book to the side (where it’s still waiting–poor thing)
I started writing at the beginning of April and finished about 3-4 weeks later. I didn’t do any plotting. I just flew along by the seat of my pants. Here’s the chair where I do ALL my writing (in case you’re curious)
I bought it for my husband, but I stole it. It’s just so comfy! You can see one of my dogs, Wally, sleeping on the floor there. I get to listen to his snoring while I write.
After writing, I did a round of edits, let my husband read it, then sent it off to a developmental editor. She sent her notes back, and I edited and edited, and edited some more. I handed it over to critique partners, and they sent back notes. I edited, and edited, and edited some more.
Here is where I do my editing (and pull out my hair)
The desk is messy, I know, but I’ll blame it on the fact that it’s a shared space 😉
I entered a few contests (didn’t win) and sent out about 10 query letters. I received a few rejections. I withdrew about half (they most likely would have been rejected anyway) I withdrew them because I had previously entered a pitch contest on Twitter–Pitmad–and received interest from a small publisher. I sent them the manuscript, and after a wait with my stomach all tied up in knots, I found out they were interested in publishing it. Yay!
And that leads us back to here…(well after more editing, editing, and editing)
Isn’t the cover cool! I LOVE it ❤️
It’s available in just a few more days–2 to be exact. I hope that if you buy it, you enjoy it. And if you enjoy it, would you mind leaving a review on Amazon and telling your friends? If there’s anything else you’d like to know, I’d love to answer any questions.
Unless you don’t like it, of course. Then I’ll be like this (only I can’t play piano)
